En via diens broer Samir zaten we in no time in nieuwe onthullingen over Hassan Zubaidi. Komt ie:

"In December 1991 as the trial was approaching certain documents that I knew existed, but which I didn't have copies of, were needed by Cutaia (2). I faxed Abed Zubaidi on the 19th asking him to provide the material to Cutaia. He answered on the 6th of January 1992 telling me he had sent the material I suggested. Margit Nesselrod still insisted that the Italians would be acquitted and be allowed to go home. Just before the trial began, probably in March, I attended a final strategy briefing of the legal team at Shea & Gould. It ran into the early morning hours. There were probably 10 people sitting around a gigantic board room table, lots of food and coffee, and all of them listening intensly to me recounting the events that had led up to the arrest in New York. We put our files in correct chronological order and I did see a number of documents that Zubaidi had provided, which I had never seen before. Even the arrogant Jewish partner was there and he thanked me for my assistance! That must have been hard for him.
The trial ran about two months in New York Superior Court in Lower Manhattan. I went to the opening session. There was only one other spectator in the room. A journalist of a magazine in Indonesia. I spoke to Cutaia several times while the trail was in progress. The defense brought in officials of the Federal Reserve, Government officials, bankers, brokers and even the Governor of the Central bank of Indonesia. Finally in May the trial ended. There was an acquittal and the Italians were released and sent home. Cutaia phoned and told me how elated he was. He gave me the court transcript number so I could purchase a copy for my interest and to forward to Zubaidi. When I contacted the court the next day I was told that all the records were sealed by the judge and could not be released without a court order! I was interested to hear that the Manhattan District Attorney had kept one of the original Indonesian Notes that rightfully belonged to Zubaidi
".

De Indonesische promesses waren dus geen falsificaties. Maar verhandelbaar? Dat is een heel ander chapiter. Stay tuned.
