Questions
Dear Friends,
We have realised the importance of asking questions in order to make an informed decision about ones involvement with Life Foundation. In order to get a complete picture, we suggest you ask not only LF members but also people who are more loosely connected and also former members. We have listed the questions people would like answers to below. We hope this will help you in your search.
- How is it possible that so many people who have left the Life Foundation have negative stories about abuse: -assault, abuse of power, verbal and physical violence, dishonesty, exploitation, Mansukhs sexual misconduct with female members? In all professional organisations (and this includes all qualified practitioners and those who assume roles as spiritual elders and guides), a very strict code of conduct with clients/patients and students is expected. Sexual misconduct and any of the above behaviours would result in instant investigation by registering bodies and insurers. Is Mr Patel aware of this? Who is he accountable to?
- LF have stated that the information which has been exposed recently about Mansukh Patel and the LF community is completely untrue. How have they come to this decision? Have they talked to the people involved and tried to honestly resolve the issues instead of completely denying them?
- If World Peace is your goal, but you are not able to solve conflicts with members in good harmony and peace, then what on earth are you up to/doing???
- In 2003 more than 15 long-term members (some for 15+ years) left the Life Foundation. A significant number of very committed supporters in Scotland, America and Netherlands also left. Why did they leave? How did LF deal with their leaving? Why?
- What is the decision making process in LF? Who makes the final decisions? Are members lower down in the hierarchy happy with this and how is information shared with them? Also, how much information is shared and how much is kept private to the ‘elders’?
- At the Dru Yoga teacher course it is said that this form of yoga is very old and that it comes from North India. How is it possible that it is the Life Foundation’s trademark then? How can it be developing all the time as is said and done?
- The Life Foundation is a commercial company. Where does the profit go? Do donors and volunteers get to see the annual returns?
- Why do members often look so tired, act confused and absent and often appear to have weight issues?
- On average, how many hours a week do members work?
- How have elderly or ill members been treated?
- Much of LF’s publicity says that they teach in war zones. Reading their publicity, one is led to believe that this is a major part of their work. Precisely when and where have they done this?
- How much real estate does the Life Foundation own? If any property is sold, it would be interesting to know whether the proceeds would be used for charitable purposes or could they go into private bank accounts held by individual LF members?
- Why are the ordinations/initiations and other spiritual practices performed by live-in members kept hidden?
- Mansukh Patel has stated that during his Phd at the University of Bangor, he refused to carry out any research on animals and in fact, changed his professors approach to research in that respect. Why then, does he clearly state in his written thesis that he performed acute toxicity tests on live calves, guinea pigs and mice, many to the point of haemorrhage and some until death?
- In previous years, celibacy was expected in order to live within the community. (This policy may have been reviewed for certain recent new members.) A number of members have had secret relationships. Why is this?
- How are long-term members enabled to stay in touch with the world outside of the community? What happens about a pension/NI contributions? If they decide to leave after many years of service, how are they thanked? Are they helped financially, whilst they sort out the practicalities of their lives? (Note that whilst in the community, most members agree to receive a small amount of weekly ‘pocket money’ only).
- Whether you are someone who is still connected to LF or have left, please ask yourself - who or what do I seek approval from? And how does this manifest in my life? What are the advantages and disadvantages for me?
- What are the challenges for couples/families in this light-seeking, planet-saving organisation?
- In the past, LF have promoted themselves as living by Gandhian principles of non-violence, poverty and simplicity etc. How exactly does that manifest?
- Why isn’t Mansukh Patel dealing with all this publicly? We are aware that a few of his closer devotees are trying to deal with it for him. Why does he not take responsibility for his own actions?
These are the questions that a lot of concerned people are now seeking answers to.
If answers to any of these questions interests you, we urge you to ask the question to more than one person. And we hope that you will hear the truth.
Peace and good wishes to you in your search.
